About IPGH

Welcome

Institute for Pathogen and Global Health Research

We are a leading interdisciplinary hub committed to tackling global health challenges through cutting-edge science and collaboration. At IPGH, we combine genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and ethnography to uncover how pathogens evolve and spread, driving solutions that protect communities.

Building on landmark initiatives — including MAL-ED, the SAMRC–UNIVEN Antimicrobial Resistance and Global Health Research Unit, the Solidarity Fund-supported pathogen surveillance project, and the DSTI/NRF Chair on Community Antimicrobial Resistance — our work spans critical priority areas.

Our approach is rooted in the One Health philosophy, recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. We translate research into action through Responsive Dialogue with communities, creating culturally relevant stewardship and advocacy tools.

Research Priority Areas
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
HIV and treatment outcomes
Wastewater-based pathogen surveillance
Childhood infections and development

🎯 Our Philosophy

One Health Approach

The One Health philosophy recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment. IPGH integrates across disciplines — from molecular microbiology to social sciences — to address health challenges at this interface.
